I agree completely with RG. Wild cat drilling has many unforeseen challenges. Keep in mind the CEO here was wildcatter if the year at one point. No matter what field or area you are in the first couple wells will have their challenges. Now that they have this information each well going forward will have plans in place to handle these issues.
Hope was telling me these guys could get to bottom in the first try, but 25yrs experience told me it would take 3-4 wells to prefect drilling in the area.
Either way 100mboe is not a loss so long as they can finish this thing up. The largest gain here is not the production from the well, its the knowledge gained from the issues encountered. That is worth much more in the long term.
Long story short we will not all get rich this time but if they can get through this salt, handle the faults and gas issues, and get through the Miocene strata then we may all be glad we stayed. I’m in for the long haul. I hope the next well is started in 2019 and that it is close to Tau so that they can use the lessons learned From Tau. If they do that I’ll load up a pile more and get ready. Good luck
