I hear you. But Whole Foods, to which I once strenuously objected, does have some things worth getting. And their pricing for some of it is much better than once upon a time. They make really good rotisserie chickens for $7:99. They're big ones, too, and very juicy. A deliberate loss leader. And I suppose that, as intended, they bring people into the store. It's a Bezos initiative: he insisted on keeping the price low, and using bigger chickens.

There're some other bargains, but not all that many. Nothing like the store Porgie has in his neighborhood:

They're in Illinois; even, apparently, in the Chicago area. CRAZY prices!

But there are no Buteras here. Or, perhaps, anywhere else in the country.

Whole Foods does, however, have pretty wonderful sandwiches. The chicken salad with avocado and bacon on a seeded hoagie roll is just magnificent. As is the roast beef and brie and peppers and stuff. What I find funniest is that the people who prepare them to order are very accommodating. You can ask: "Could I have a little more avocado?" and they'll give you another half avocado. They seem to feel about a half pound of chicken salad is appropriate, but if you want, you could ask for more. Same with the roast beef and brie. VERY hearty sandwiches.

And if you want, you can just choose your type of bread and your own ingredients...
