True. It’s certainly possible. But bulletin board shareholders so often grab at absolutely anything without context, I’ve learned over time my own way to sniff out what I will pay attention to and find of true significance. But you may certainly be right. But I sensed they simply wanted a well regarded venue to present fairly straightforward, still blinded results. A journal should simply decide if they will do it, or not and then hopefully they don’t assign the review to the proprietor-scientist of a competitive product. Some journals are quite political too. Read Craig Venters initial autobiography. I’ve seen similar dynamics play out multiple times on somewhat smaller scale with multiple companies. The entire field is filled with political, competitive land mines for unsuspecting, honest and enthusiastic scientists to discover. Universities can even actively be involved in trying to steal the thunder from other researchers. I’ve seen it. Could not believe it.

Lots of bad stuff happens in the field of biomedical research every day.
