Well you have certainly raised some interesting points about the Titanic. I switched up the analogy a bit from the pure hypothetical (allegory of the cave) to the historical to illustrate that people do have reasonable differences of opinion on this topic and that while we often disagree, there are some bits of objective reality we can extrapolate from our current situation from SPCL.

So to answer your question - you made several good points that I did not remember or was not aware of. Yes, the ship did not have watertight compartments rising to the top of the bulkheads and the company never promoted the idea that the ship was unsinkable; however, the belief that the angle of the strike would not have changed things is simply not supported by the historical record.

Several other ships with similar designs struck objects head on and did not sink. Their owners stayed the course and as a result they prospered and survived. It was only those who panicked (or at least made hasty decisions to sell er... change course) at the sight of an iceberg who perished and lost their fortunes. So there is my answer sir. Might I also add that even if you find the time and energy to prepare an elegant response here - it will merely result in a huge waste of time anyway since we now must stay the course regardless.

Any errant discussion would simply be the equivalent of rearranging deck chairs on the upper deck. :)
