These days I would just go with a sector ETF, like Vanguard's (VPU) or the SPDR ETF (XLU), you really can't go wrong with those. But in my stock picking days I assembled several lists of utility stocks and also for other high dividend sectors -

I haven't updated those lists in a while so the dividend yields quoted are somewhat dated.

Fwiw I'll probably just stick to index ETFs. Picking individual stocks is fun but there are always the inevitable blowups, and it takes considerable time/effort to keep up with all those stocks. You can never really stay on top of things. Index investing is the way to go imo.
