Yes, one of my strongest arguments lately is that ultra high dividend stocks have been sucker bets. The sweet dividend spot for total return (growth plus dividend yield) has been around 1%-3%. From what I've seen, even stocks that paid 4% to 6% performed poorly, all told. For example I have a small amount of inherited ATT that yields about 6%. Poor performer in recent years.

Just looked at some quality utility stocks. They've all tumbled this past few weeks.
