I've been doing this a long time and have a similar story although no criminal action was done. (It should have been criminal). I was in a company 2 years ago and was in the middle of a stellar run. It was skyrocketing and literally right in the middle of this moon shot I went to the kitchen to get some iced tea. It was 45 seconds tops. During that interlude, they announced major dilution so by the time I got back I had lost 6K after being up 3K.

Moral of the story, don't invest anything you're not comfortable walking away from at any given time.
