Sometime before 2009 I think I wanted to take the tax loss in a large cap banking fund so I sold that and bought KRE which is a smaller bank fund. So I think the smaller banks just pay less dividends.

I have the same issue with REIT funds not paying much in dividends and own an individual REIT instead.

A few years ago when bank stock were lower but the dividend payout was still greater than 5% I had the thought " why deposit money in a bank at less than 1% when you you can buy the bank and get greater than 5%.
