I think in many ways the Iphone could be in the same position that pc's were 15 years ago. When pc's hit the market and before you could get it home it was outdated. there was always a new one that was faster, brighter and had better storage.

Eventually after many years (and many purchases) I didn't need faster or more storage. What I had fullfilled my needs and I could get off the train.

All I needed was reliability and safety and I'm happy.
