One reason I've gone toward owning individual stock is that gives me more control over taxes. But any index fund shouldn't trade much, meaning few gains even in 2018. That's also a reason to own BRK, as Buffett has pointed out. There have been surveys on whether BRK shareholders want dividends, and the overwhelming majority don't.
