What you say makes so much sense, I hope you don't mind that I re-posted it on another I-Hub board where some of the posters need to be reminded of this basic sensible approach to investing.

Btw, do you see an advantage of index ETFs over index mutual funds? The lack of periodic capital gains distributions from ETFs is one distinct advantage when held in a taxable account, even for index funds since if a mutual fund experiences a lot of redemptions during a bear market, that can trigger taxable capital gains.
