Intel is telling its hardware and software partners that the ability to migrate keys and the like is an essential part of a system design.
If there's a motherboard failure, the backed up encrypted files will still need the module keys to decrypt them. If the TPM fails, using maintenance utilities will restore all the keys. People maintaining PCs using trusted computing will need to create something called "migration blobs", so that in the event of computer theft or other disasters, everything can be restored to a fresh PC. These "key blobs" are stored on hard drives, so backup utility software must ensure that all the keys are available on a drive when the backups are made. When a restore is necessary, the backed up files should be moved to the proper place on an HDD, and the module will recognise the same key blobs as if they were the original.
