Persistence of Anavex Treatment

...the effect of A2-73 persist(s) for a period without dosing.

This is important. Will effective treatment of the Anavex sigma-1 receptor agonists require persisting daily dosings? Or, do the drugs therapeutically persist in neurons (and other cells), allowing either more intermittent dosings, or merely a single short course, followed by continuing positive outcomes of extended duration?

Either of the latter are possible, inasmuch as the molecules bind to specific receptors on the endoplasmic reticulum. They don’t just float around in cells. Adhered there, their effects can persist.

Very different from conventional drugs which typically reside (for a period) only in circulatory sera or dissolved into the cytosol (cellular fluid). In both of those cases, the molecules are either actively cleared from the body or cells, or they merely defuse away. That requires frequent, usually daily dosings. When they are stopped, so do treatment outcomes.

Anavex drugs bind to propitious cellular structures (endoplasmic reticula, and/or the associated mitochondria) and remain stuck there and fully active for extended periods.

Very clearly, the Anavex patent application takes all of this into potential account.
