Thank you, again, falconer, for that comprehensive description (I was expecting a few sentences).

Thank you. But what I laid out in those paragraphs (try to keep things just in sentences when possible) merely touches upon the multitude of interconnected homeostatic processes that allow cells (in this case) neurons to function.

For those of us with AVXL holdings, what might that mean? Simply, the chemical reaction sequences and process controls of neurons are extremely complex. Even by the best cellular biochemists, they are unknown in their entirety.

For example, it can be known that two molecules react within a cell. But, as in the case of enzymes, how they react depends upon the exact configuration of the multitude of atoms in each molecule. An enzyme can have several hundred or more. Get one atom placed in the wrong sequence or position, and the enzyme no longer functions. Downstream reactions are disrupted; pathology results.

In short, I don’t think anyone knows yet with specificity all of the downstream chemistries that the Anavex sigma-1 receptor agonists will helpfully resolve and control. Efficient production and transport of ATP from the mitochondria is one process, resulting in properly folded proteins (enzymes) downstream in the endoplasmic reticula...and so forth.

The effects of the Anavex molecules are not binary; on/off, or good/bad. Instead, they control and promote a host of cellular processes — which can have a large number of positive therapeutic outcomes

Because of all of this, Anavex 2-73 may have far-reaching applications beyond just Rett syndrome, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. For example, there is already human evidence that Anavex 2-73 facilitates sound sleep; in people with forms of insomnia. No one predicted that outcome. Anavex pipeline information hints at cardiovascular applications, psychiatric applications, and oncological (cancer) usages.

And, Anavex 3-71 appears to be an even stronger, better sigma-1 receptor agonist. Who (outside of Anavex test labs) knows what this molecule will do?

I see Anavex Life Sciences Corp becoming a major pharmaceutical, specializing in a number of sigma-1 receptor agonist drugs, each with a wide diversity of profound therapeutic outcomes.
