When I talked to him last week he was basically saying that APDN was an "idea" company with no real product to sell yet as there havent been any major buyers into any of the pilots.

He basically was saying:
Yes we have actual product.
Yes we have successful pilots, and that is why there are so many, they are trying to get one (or more) to stick.

I have just come to the conclusion that most companies just dont care about protecting their brand identities and keeping fakes in check.
