I agree to a point. The lobbying and campaign donation money is mostly used for legislation that is favorable to pharma and not specifically to work against particular technologies per se. However there is overlap there sometimes and certainly as long as we have a political system based on the need for huge fund raising to cover the costs of silly campaign lengths and communications we will have expanded possibility of wrongful influence, corruption. Campaign reform to contain all of this money flowing through politics would go a long way to separating special interests from our lawmakers. Boy would I love to see a movement to curtail political campaigns to say 3 mos, bio's, position papers, debates and town hall meetings only. Pharma certainly is prominent in Washington mostly due to the fact that in medicine we have a quasi-market system because it is partly subsidized by govt, an added layer of complexity to a healthcare system. Transparency is always key to public decision making. FDA policy is mostly transparent via its published guidances. But, NWBO has engineered a multi-pathway to success to avoid the possibility of wrongful influence. NWBO owns its trial and its data and they are currently steering the ship.
