If you have a business jet and want to connect to the ground you have multiple choices. Viasat is one of them. It provides service similar to what you would get from Gogo on a commercial airline. Gogo also provides business jet inflight connectivity. So let's say you want to equip your Gulfstream corporate jet with Viasat service so you can attempt to do anything online you'd do on the ground.

You take your aircraft out of service for 3-4 days to do the installation which includes the purchase of an external antenna. I'm sure that's way more than the $9,990 installation for chiimp.

I can see how a corporate jet with top executives would need full service internet for video conferencing. You'd get 30 gb of data for $6,995 per month. Is that enough? I'm not techy enough to answer that. If you'd need 60 gb that's $14,995 per month. I assume the prices in the photo below are competitive with other companies that offer business jet internet or Viasat wouldn't prominently display them at a major show.

So you've spent probably $30,000+ for installation and $83,940 for a year of minimum service from Viasat, $299,940 yearly for full service. I can see that for Fortune 500 execs even though flights would only be 6 hours or so and the plane would spend the vast majority of its time on the ground.

If you just want to keep in touch via text or email while airborne for a few hours, and not stream video you can get the chiimp system for $9,990 (installed in just a few hours with no holes drilled in your plane) and $3,588 yearly. Easy to see how, with the Iridium Next satellite system in use IPTK has "received multiple orders from both Europe and North America."


It's nice to have a lot of horsepower in the engine room but you need some in the wheelhouse too.
