They may want to keep in mind, though, that the judge can file a complaint with the bar association. It doesn't have to be a client complaint to launch an investigation. I know an attorney who was notorious for missing filing deadlines and was recommended for disbarment by a judge when he failed to meet a deadline one too many times.
