The stock they get will be issued by the company. They won’t be buying ANY in the open market now or later. That is not how underwriting works.

While it is not unheard of for an underwriter or others to short the stock in order to create better pricing, that is a very fine line they would be walking and likely not occurring given the pps is well below $2.50...which is the margin requirement per share.
