Pilot, better known as Pilot Flying J, said Carlisle, Pa.-based Equipment Transport provides fluid transportation, waste management and ancillary pad support services to customers in the Marcellus and Utica shales and the Permian Basin.

Pilot said it acquired Equipment Transport through PDPS LLC, a venture it formed in June to provide salt-water transportation and disposal services to the oil and gas sector. Pilot, which says it has one of the largest third-party crude hauling fleets in the U.S., operates more than 500 trucks and a dozen saltwater disposal wells.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKA) last year bought an initial 38.6% interest in Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot, one of the largest private companies in the U.S., with plans to buy raise its stake to 80% in 2023.

CIVC Partners, a Chicago middle-market private-equity firm, invested in Equipment Transport in 2012.
