Actually that is not why they don't print receipts. It's so they cannot then do a recount. If they spit out a receipt one could then look at the receipt and leave/drop it in a box of all other votes. In case of a recount then one can be had. Printing a receipt and taking the receipt with you is a red herring as no one is asking for that but it makes good copy.
