bblack: in my admittedly limited knowledge about margin, brokerage firms decide margin on several factors:
1. the total value of your account
2. the % of any one stock in your account
3. the volatility of the stock you want to margin
e.g. if all of the stock in your account is AMRN shares, they won't let you margin it.
