The article says it will cost the healthcare system $9 billion to put people on this drug. Strange that they didn’t mention what it might save in healthcare expense. That’s why I thought when I read it the first time that it was sponsored by someone not friendly to us.



Don't read too much into that, if anything take it as one estimate of the potential size of the market.

Sadly, it is generally not cost-saving to **help people live longer** because those people will continue to incur healthcare expenses that they wouldn't have incurred if they were, you know, dead. That's why we talk about pharmaceuticals in terms of cost efficacy rather than cost savings.

A drug that is as inexpensive as Vascepa with an NNT of 21 is going to be highly cost effective. But it is not cost saving.
