Jerry, re NW. This is speculative, but what I think happened with NW in general is this.

NW made his fame running funds at Invesco. He would have had a large support staff that could have helped him vet his calls. He had an eye for gems, but often the staff dug out that they were were fakes.

Then he went out on his own. That support staff was gone. He still had his eye for possible gems, but never really had the ability to discriminate against the fake ones.
