...are there reasons to believe that Vascepa might have had a positive impact on other common causes of mortality in old farts in bad health?

Hmm this reminds me of the whole "pleiotropic effects of statins" thing that was going on circa 2006.

While Vascepa may very well have benefits beyond CV, it would likely take a very large, expensive, and long trial to prove it.
