Maybe it was your choice of wording but

Sure sounds like you were suggesting they had come to agreement on terms of a settlement.

They have not. Quite the opposite....”too far apart” means they aren’t even close to one.

There is nothing good about what is in the letter. Offers of settlement are quite standard...and in this case the letter suggests there is a long road ahead...contrary to Rory’s portrayal of this being frivolous or quickly dismissed.
