In manufacturing my Demand Charge is close to 150% of my Electrical Usage charge and there's a reason for it.

I pay xx cents per KWH just like anyone else. If I average 150KW an hour for the month I pay xx cents per KWH just like anyone else. If for some reason, if I were to use more than 150KW for longer than 5 minutes I incur a Demand Charge. The higher I go for more than 5 minutes the higher the Demand charge.

The argument is that the power companies need to build generating equipment so that they always have ample supply for those peak moments.

It's not unusual for my monthly bill to be $50K, and 30K of it is for the demand charge.

Why would an EV application be different and if so who's going to pay for their demand on the system?
