No, you are confusing HFT with manipulation algos. HFT is just front running and scalping fractions of a penny. Manipulation is different. Why are they running it down? Because they currently have a short bias, which is easier when the company is low in cash. But you’d have to ask them why they have it working in this direction currently. The algos do not determine the pps completely. They don’t need to. Creating and enforcing a trend gets longs to bail along the way and bandwagon traders play it short also. Do it long enough and you may force a baby biotech to raise money at a suppressed price, thus magnifying the trend. That is where we are. And management made it all easier by not capitalizing and spending efficiently in the past.
