John teaches us----"My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the whole world."

I think John was saying that when we mess up we got a very good lawyer, and by the way this lawyer has already paid the price for our messing up-------rather comforting I think.
