RCKS - all these Utah trails located at the BLM area
just outside Canyonlands National Park are fabulous for
mountain biking ..
I take my hard tail with no suspension of any kind on these routes because the bumps are nothing

it is called the Navajo rocks trail system, and is full of mountain
cats hunting in the winter, so there are cat tracks everywhere ..some nearly as large as my feet

avoid dawn and dusk, and blow a whistle on occasion

the trail icing from melted snow in December through Feb 28th:

it usually is only in shady areas, so I walk my bike through those ... riding the snow on top of the slick rock and sandy areas has not been a problem for me in these past winters

I avoid mid-March through mid-November because there are actually people on the trails and the small parking lots - LoL

this trail system is relatively new, built by a partnership with the BLM ... it takes me about a day to ride the entire trail system, if I push the limited day light hours in the winter.

found a rainbow agate arrow head at my lunch break and view spot a few years ago...it is translucent

FYI - it is possible to ride directly up the paved biking trail which is far from the shoulder of the Hwy leaving Moab headed North, and then ride inside the paved underpass which crosses this same highway, and then up a closed jeep road with a large amount of elevation gain to the Navajo rocks trail heads. Or be dropped off up top, and then ride downhill back to Moab on this route. Many folks do that, if locals or regulars. The scenery in winter is fantastic, because the distant mountains are covered with snow, and the reds in the Moab area contrast.

see ya around

Maps of:

Ramblin
Big Mesa - my fav, mountain cats are abundant here
Rocky Tops - one section is technical, about .75 mile of steep grade and loose soil/rock
Lonely
