The Yankees had a pretty good season on the field and in the accounting department. Staying under the luxury tax this season allowed them to increase profits while simultaneously cutting costs. With $40+ million coming off the books this offseason, the Yankees are primed to spend and spend big. To put it into perspective, the Yankees could sign Manny Machado, Patrick Corbin, and Clayton Kershaw this offseason and pay the same amount in payroll and taxes as they did during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
