Being a remyelination agent may not be enough. If the immune system decides to attack the renewed myelination as fast as it is created then it is not the solution. It may turn out that 2-73 makes the immune system happy at the same time. There has been some discussion of reducing inflammation with 2-73 so maybe that could quiet the immune system at the same time it is inducing remyeliation.

My point is there are a lot of things going on in CNS diseases. This stuff is complicated. There are feedback loops and multiple interactions going on all at the same time. Finding a spot to interrupt a complex disease without making other things worse is no small task.

Xena keeps making the point about drugs having nasty side effects. That is the complex system getting unhappy about being disturbed by the drug. Sure the drug can improve a specific point in the system, but the rest of the system is perturbed at the same time and that can have negative consequences. CNS diseases are more complex because of the highly interconnectedness of the brain and neural system, so there are more opportunities for things to get unhappy.

2-73 is targeting a point early on in the energy and protein production system of the brain and other organs. If the upstream system has an issue, it is easy to see that there will be downstream consequences. So improving the upstream issues can have positive consequences downstream. But what about the situation where the problem is further down stream. Will improving the upstream situation have positive consequences on the downstream issues. That is much harder to predict. Like I have pointed out, there are feedback loops that can have upstream and down stream effects.

Medicine is hard, CNS diseases are even harder.

If investing was easy, everyone would be rich by now.
