DonG -- I agree . . .

If the purpose of the "EVENT" is to, as you put it

"unveil something of importance"

then it would seem that they would want the largest, most diverse group of media possible.

When it is held in secret with no report of what was "released", the date and time frame or who was there . . . that, in no way is a MEDIA EVENT.
