If you own shares you are still part owner of the company whatever value it may be will only be determined by an audit or sale of assets and than a audited filing would still validate that value for cash from sales for holders I’m guessing to verify

If you however ask your broker to remove shares they would possibly be receiving benefit and you would declare loss than I’m guessjng - need to confirm with professional advisor
