My first bike was a yamaha seca 550. then I moved from Ontario to Quebec and I had to pass a safety check. Fuck that, let someone else do it, so I sold it and bought a Kawasaki GPZ 750. Total piece of shit.

The previous owner had rebuilt the engine. After about 6 months owning the thing, everything started going wrong. Chain flew off on the highway, muffler fell off on the highway, drive sproket nut fell off on the highway....

all of these things could easily lead to death at 60 miles an hour.

All those things I fixed and sold it to someone else

Then I bought a Honda Nighthawk 650 with a driveshaft instead of a chain. Best bike I ever owned. That's the one I used to do 2 trips, 13,000 km across canada, and 13,000 to grand cananyon.

month long trips each one. I always stuck to the speed limits, anyway, with 2 people on board and all the camping gear and clothes, sleeping bags, tent, tools... it would have been difficult to exceed speed limits.

Picked up a nail in the rear tire somewhere in the middle of fuckin nowhere arizona.

No problem, I was equipped, had tubless tire plug kit and a 12v mini compressor. 20 mins and back on the road.

The first time I took my ex-wife on a weekend trip, before she was my wife, I handed her a side bag and said she could bring whatever she could fit in it. took her hours to decide what to bring.

second time was a 5 day tour, same thing, you can bring whatever you can fit in there. took her a couple hours to decide.

then the month long trips, she knew what was important and what was not, still a couple hours, but well thought out.

Sadly I'm too old for that now, my back wouldn't take a month of camping...
