Ah, I'm envious of you for that adventure,

if by magic your life could be rearranged to accommodate it, would you take on a similar venture on a bike in some tantalizing locale? What was your steed of choice, a BMW?

I'm older than you and I've had to put the brakes on while on the very brink of getting a cafe racer several times over the last few years, not for traveling but for local cruising. I don't have a death wish but it would probably end that way.

What slows me down is the memory of the last bike I owned which was in Fla. before I shackled myself to a ball and chain out of school. I had a 650 Bonneville which I dropped 3 times in two years... going slow! The heat in Fla. causes the tar to bubble up and then in any kind of drizzle turns the roads slicker'n snot. The last time I dropped it I slid up under a dump truck at a red light, that was the last time riding 40 some years ago.

Instead and more reasonably I just bought a mountain bike frame to start a slow build as a winter project on an ebike. Currently studying how to construct a lithium battery out of a few dozen finger sized 18650 cells, found in cameras, power tools etc. Much cheaper and more versatile than the current choice of ebike ready batteries out of China. That way I'll stick mainly to sidewalks and side roads when possible running to the store, the Y, or an occasional country ride which I'd have to transport the bike on a car rack. Everything is so built up around here any more that I wouldn't feel comfortable on local roads.
