PHIL actually magnets remove the heavy iron minerals from your process.

Hematite and Magnetite, Prospectors call it black sands. In the bottom of your Gold pan after washing away the lighter minerals. The Gold is heavier then the black sand but most Gold is very small particles.

A bigger grain of Hematite or Magnetite will stay in your pan ant the smaller AU particle will wash out.

A magnet will remove the Iron ore and leave the AU.

AU/Gold in non magnetic.
