What I saw was a two-channel scope monitoring an input PAM4 waveform and the modulator output through a detector. The output was also displayed on an eye diagram.

I observed a (very) stable modulator output, ie., minimal drift of the modulator DC bias wrt time with a Vpi of approx 3V. The bias drift of the P2IC modulator is significantly less than any traditional MZ LiNb modulators I have worked with previously, which implies low electrode capacitance.

I did not ask what data rates they were using during the demo. I would liked to have seen a spectral output displayed from a two-tone test to see the amount of third order distortion (OIP3), but that was not available for the demonstration. I believe this is the area in which they were running into issues with the modulator and/or the packaging at that time based on ML's presentation, as I discussed in earlier posts.

My background with photonics is in the analog domain, not digital. We use photonics to modulate radar waveforms in delay lines, etc. My focus is with the noise floor, sensitivity, insertion loss, stability and linearity of the modulators.

I spoke at length with Fred Leonberger and walked away with the distinct impression the LWLG is in very good hands with his expertise.
