Hey brichnyc...not a dumb question IMO. BIIB has a consensus image here (not saying it is true) that they do what they do for money. An example would be their recent AD PR when their SP surged for a day. Even a superficial read of that PR shows they duped a lot of people with claims they could not prove, yet. The timing of that and current PR actions is what many question.

BIIB is what it is, IMO. They are doing an up front arm waving which some claim is an established PR process prior to such events. I do not know if that is what they have done in other cases but it fits what we have seen lately.

Bottom line (all only my opinion) is the style of BIIB management has been questioned in the past on how they treat smaller Bio micro during takeovers. One might say they are soft bullying others, which is obviously an opinion as well.

At some level, the big money argument works for everyone. If controls were in place and the science were used to the greatest human health benefit then I am OK. BTW, IMO, if AVXL CNS disease hypothesis on cellular homeostasis-restore and regen- is proven to be true then some greater power will insist on controlling it's development and use WW. So, the whole thing (BIIB v. AVXL) may be an academic discussion.
