Does BP really have the FDA in their back pocket, and small Biotech's have little a chance of success without the support of Big money Wall Street investors ?

IMO, there is no shortage of really (technically) smart people in BP and FDA. The real question might be what motivation exists within BP to ACTUALLY FIX PROBLEMS? And, does the FDA process obsession w/control and detail (minutia) process bound work habit get stuff stopped, ether intentionally or not. FDA layered systems have constraints/inertia that come w/the turf. One can easily spend a career just becoming a LABEL/LABELING EXPERT. I know some very smart people who have done that and they are great people. You cannot survive-produce a product w/o such people and knowledge. So, it is what it is.

I would add that executive management in BP and medical device companies live and die by different metrics than the people who drive the science and they control what gets spent and where, along w/politicians.
The interface between Science and executive management is where stuff gets real murky, where dollars get converted to science or not. Try proving that sometime.

BTW, BIIB just BLINKED IF YOU READ TEIR PR TODAY ABOUT AAIC.
