You can easily connect a monitor to your laptop via a docking station (that is the setup I use). My laptop also has only one USB connector, but a docking station will have several -- I have my printer, monitor (a TV), wireless keyboard, mouse and more plugged into the docking station, so I am using all the USB connectors there and then I purchased a USB 3.0 Hub (Trond makes one and they are quite cheap), which gives me 3 more.

I love the docking station as I unplug the connector from the laptop and the charger and easily reconnect the laptop when I return.
