Mark Smith does not want a government handout
He said so at the Tecumseh town hall. His preference is for private financing (ie let the free enterprise system work.) IMHO Trump feels the same way. He does not want the government supporting industries. He wants the government to create an environment in which free enterprise can work. I don't see the US gov financing this mine. However, if US gov loan guarantees can get lenders on board and get this thing rolling, I sure can see that happening. IF, IF, IF the whole thing is a failure then a loan guarantee ends up being a handout (Solindra for exampke) . If the mine gets built and is successful, then the loan guarantee is "greasing the skids" so things run smoothly. Strictly MHO, but I can see Trump and Angela Merkel looking for some common ground where they can work together. Loan guarantees from BOTH countries would be an opportunity to do so. Just a thought!

Is Jim Sims the right guy to testify?? Oh yeah, for sure! Sims, Smith, and Honan are all very talented but what makes them so great is the vaiety of talents. For Sims it is explaining complicated stuff to the uneducated (US congress AND investing public.)
