I think the love of A-1 was a result of tough cuts of beef during the depression or perhaps the war. For steaks my dad insisted on having it on the table within arms reach.

I do use a dash of Worcestershire in my scrambled eggs which perks them up and of course in meatloaf.

And no ketchup in the meatloaf.
