On the morning of July 4, Quang Nam People's Committee met with Kraig Biocraft Laboratories (USA) on the project to research and develop silkworm silkworm technology in Dai Loc district.
Lai created two varieties of silkworms
The project was approved by the province for this company to survey, study and make investment procedures, research scale of about 50 ha, ants have 3 phases, direction to an area of ??2,000-2,500 ha.
Earlier, in a report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province reported that from January 2017 Kraig Biocraft Laboratories conducted a survey and submitted a preliminary investment proposal on high tech silkworm production. Importers of genetically modified silkworm breed Bombyx Mori breed with local silkworms to transfer to farmers.
The company will cooperate with farmers to develop the mulberry growing area of ??about 2,000ha, purchase all cocoons of the people, produce raw silk for domestic and export.
The province also asked the Ministry to consider the dossier in order to approve the policy to allow the company to import silkworms and breed and transfer to farmers.
At the meeting, representatives of Kraig Biocraft Laboratories want to temporarily transfer 50ha of land to actively research and deploy.
However, the issue of concern is that the investor should have the certification of the Ministry of Science and Technology for hybrid silkworms to develop the project.
In addition, Pham Viet Tich, Director of the Quang Nam Department of Science and Technology, said that the import of hybrid silkworms must be approved by the US side to be imported into Vietnam without affecting the environment. Harmful, affecting mulberry in water.

Dinh Van Thu, Chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee, agreed to extend the study and survey period to 31-12.
During this time, Mr. Thu asked the owner to continue to make the entire planning, project planning, environmental impact assessment report, and must have the authority of the import Silkworm hybrid from the United States.
Mr. Thu said that according to the provincial law, it is not possible to temporarily allocate land in accordance with the investors' expectation, but will support the investor in terms of procedures, research and development projects.
"The project is in line with the policy of restoration of traditional silkworm rearing in the riverside of Thu Bon river, establishing a working group, actively instructing relevant sectors and localities to support the research of the project. It is the expectation and support of the province for this project, "Thu said.
Why silkworm mutants with local silkworms?
Jon Rice, Managing Director of Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, said that Quang Nam now has the resources to secure people, land and infrastructure, especially traditional silk-worm farming. , suitable for development projects, the company wants to invest about $ 50 million here.
According to Rice, hybrid silkworms produce a durable, soft, elastic yarn that is elastic, folding several times stronger than steel, stronger than synthetic fibers.
He claims that Kraig Biocraft Laboratories has successfully researched this silkworm in the United States and wanted to bring to Quang Nam to test so it does not affect, conflict with traditional silkworms.
Accordingly, the hybridization of genetically modified silkworms with local silkworms is to produce larger silkworms, for higher quality products for export to the United States and other countries.
