Good points. Humans are horrible monitors of automated systems.

... just look at aviation. Autopilots have been around since 1912,
and have proven that the more things get automated, the more problems are caused.

The pilot is out of the loop, and things can go wrong before theyre noticed.

Automation can be of major benefit, but Tesla needs to be more responsible in its implementation.

"Driverless cars im sure will be the future one day, but this semi-autonomous step in the middle troubles me.

I completely get and support the various driver aids such as lane assist and the traction / braking automation. Even automatic emergency braking to prevent rear ending another vehicle. These are all great, as they are making the roads safer, but do not take away the concentration of the driver.

As we have seen with the autonoumous driving, focus for the driver becomes a real problem. You are either fully in control of your car, or you are not. You cant be 50/50.

The Uber driver was watching TV when his car killed the cyclist
The Tesla driver arrested for sitting in the passenger seat
Various crashes which the software was at least partly responsible for
Some where it was fully resposible.

If you begin to trust the software, you switch off, its simple human nature. We are lazy by nature. Why waste energy focused if there is no need."
