If you don't have a margin acct. w/ a balance of $25K or greater and you purchase and sell the same stock the same day you will be flagged as a "pattern day trader" and allowed only so many round trips in a specified time period. I think each broker differs on this though. With TDA you are allowed 4 round trips I believe in a 5 consecutive day span of time. If you go over the allowed # of round trip trades in the specified time period you will trigger a margin call.
