General Electric headed to its biggest decline in nine years as CEO John Flannery warned that the challenges besetting the beleagured manufacturer, formerly a financial firm, won't go away soon.

The power unit faces the prospect of a "soft" market for its signature gas turbines that's likley to last for several years. While the jet engine and healthcare units remain strong, GE also faces continuing losses in its insurance business.
