Well, if you take those three little words off on their own it means a comparitive such as, "I would rather squash a bug than eat it". However if we choose to break down this phrase even more we have "so me thing than tri-ed", and therefore can conclude that, I would prefer one thing over three. I hope this helps you, but if not you can always go back and reread the original phrase as I think it was quite self explaining.
BTW, are you zeninvestor or zeninvestor's mother?
