It's rare to have a completely new, unseen, unheard of idea to market...
If you have one, you need to do extra due diligence to find out why nobody else is doing that... (Do they possibly know something you don't?)
Pioneering is a very costly way to do business...
You often need to educate the consumer about why they need what you have to offer and then hope they agree.
It takes a lot more to get the word out about something totally new.
If somebody else is already successfully selling something and people are buying, it's a really good bet that you can position yours to sell too!
Should Under Armour have looked around and said to themselves "We can't sell T-Shirts because other people are already doing it?"
That line of thinking would have cost them quite a bit I'd say...
