Note that Cisco is the minor infringer, Arris is the major infringer. That could be why Arris noted it, but Cisco did not. For Cisco, they sold the modem business in 2015 to a French company. Their infringement stopped there, 4 yrs infringement liability is quarters in the meter to them. But Arris, they have infringed since the beginning and have sold the most infringing product, including future liability. Because they are remainimg in the game, their future liabilty plus the most sales, dwarfs Cisco. There is a minimum $800MM total amount due Chanbond- they will owe 3/4 of it. I calculate they will owe $600MM- they note they have sold their 200MMth unit- they will owe at least $1.50 per unit minimum= $300MM. These patents have something like 12-14 more years to run- double that $300MM for that= $600MM. Cisco will owe about $150MM based on their lower market share during the time they were infringing= $750MM. Another $50MM should come from the smaller players- the French company that bought the Cisco biz for example. So dont just concentrate on Cisco- the big money comes from Arris. And this could very well take down Arris.
